Therapeutic & Wellness’ co-owner Marty Biondi, PT CSCS is an integral part of a pilot program to assist in accelerating the recovery of wounded Soldiers. Dr. Mary Wykle, noted aquatic therapist, was instrumental in convincing the Army to start the pilot. The program is divided into two parts:
- Aquatic Rehabilitation - for Soldiers under the care of physical/occupational therapy
- Aquatic Warrior Exercise - for Soldiers who have completed rehabilitation, but continue to have limitations prohibiting them from regular unit physical training
Currently three US Army Forts are involved, with the hope that this pilot will prove successful and roll out to all US Army Forts.
Both Wykle and Biondi have worked with wounded Soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the past. “We hope to show that, through aquatic rehabilitation, soldiers’ rate of return to function is faster, and that they can maintain or improve cardiovascular fitness with a decrease in pain,” Wykle said.

The Wounded Warrior pilot was mentioned in the March 2010 "The Phoenix Word", the Ft. Lewis newsletter. The pilot program, in place since December 2009, includes collecting feedback from three Forts to evaluate its effectiveness.
